Chapter 4 Self-similarity

Introduction.

At the end of the last chapter, we met a strange set called the Cantor Set. In this chapter, we’ll see that the Cantor set is the prototypical member of a broad class of sets called the self-similar sets. Intuitively, a self-similar set is one that is composed of smaller copies of itself. To prepare for our exploration of these sets, we’ll begin with another look at the Cantor set itself.
