Homework 03: Question 4

edited August 2019 in Student Questions

Suppose the row echelon form of a system of equations is $$\begin{align} x+4y+10z&=2\\
y-3z&=8.\end{align}$$
The parameterized solution is $<x, y, z>$ =<_____,______,______>
(Enter the components of the vector $<x, y, z>$ using $t$ for the free variable)

You do not have to answer this particular set of equations, but can someone give me an example of what they wrote in the blanks for each of these that worked? I understand the question and how to get the free variable and the rest of the variables with it, but cannot figure out how to format the answer.

  • An example of formatting this answer correctly would be:

    $$<x,y,z>=<\frac{5}{3}t + 20,6+2t,t>.$$

  • Instead of saying $z=z$ like we did on homework 2, you would have $z=t$ and put $x$ and $y$ in terms of $t$.
