The volume function will be set as 1, as far as the significance, this is showing how you can find the volume under the curves between the two limits using the terms of integration. You end up with a pretty simple integral to solve, and as soon as I get to a computer I will type up what we came up with as a group today in class, too hard from a phone! Sorry!
