So, for 4c. I am curious as to what a good response to this question would look like. My response was that:

There does not appear to be a genuine difference because of how close the medians of each school’s salaries are to each other.

Is that acceptable/does that make sense to anyone else??

I would say that according to the box plot figures the median salaries only differ slightly. This indicates that there is not a significant difference between the median salaries of each school.

I would avoid making statement such as genuine ect. without using specific numbers but judging from the graphics there does not appear to be a large difference.

I’m pretty comfortable with what both of you guys said. You can even be a bit wishy-washy on this and say something like “It’s difficult to tell from the figure”. A key point here is that the difference has to be pretty extreme before an image will reveal a definitive difference. That’s exactly why we need statistical tests to quantify things in terms of probabilities and confidence levels.
