Doing a review of Z-Score calculations:

KBC2019

Hi Everyone –

I thought it would be helpful to do a review before the final coming up so I am making a problem that deals with older material from the course.

Here is the problem involving Z-Scores:

If I have two x values, one of 24 and one of 10 would i end up with a negative or positive standard deviation?

I feel like you are missing some information that you need to include. Where are you getting this problem from? Is your questions sorta in response to number 7 on the review?

KBC2019

Yes. Practicing by plugging in different numbers. What should I do differently?

jthomps6

I would instead made a totally new problem to practice it such as~

The grades on a chemistry midterm at Springer are roughly symmetric with μ=67 and σ=2.0.
William scored 66 on the exam.
Find the z-score for William’s exam grade.

Thank you: So would it be 66-67/2.0?

jthomps6

Correct and the Z-Score would end up being: -0.50

but to get two different z scores you would of course need two x values, right?

jthomps6

Yeah so, it seems like your question is what is the value between two scores. You simply calculate both scores and find the middle of the two.
