Degrees of Freedom (df)

Degrees of Freedom (df):

I need more explanation on the degrees of freedom (df). Why do we take the minimum when you use degrees of freedom (df)? I have been reading some other sources and people on the web are using df=n1+n2-2. When do you use df=n1+n2–2, and does it relate to finding the critical value? I was trying to do the online homework with this method but should I use nMin-1?

As stated in class you should use the nMin-1 because it fits the format of the types of problems we are encountering. Im sure the professor will correct me if im wrong but, I believe we dont use the df=n1+n2-2 mainly because, it is for a Two-Sample T-Test and not what MyOpenMath is looking for which is a Welch’s T-Test. Again, I am sure he will correct me if im wrong, but for now just use the nMin-1 for the homework.
