Your favorite function

mark

(5pts)

I can't imagine that you could've possibly made it this far without finding a favorite function that maps \mathbb R \to \mathbb R! For this five point assignment, your job is to tell us yours. To do so, just respond to this post and be sure to

  • Tell us the algebraic formula for your favorite function, nicely typeset and
  • Show us the graph.
User 032

My favorite function is f(x) = e^{-x^2}. It's graph looks like so:

User 006

My favorite function is f(x) = 1 / x^2.

User 019

My favorite function is f(x) = x^2 . The graph looks like:

User 003

My favorite is f(x)=\frac{x}{x+1}
A form of this function is used to describe enzyme chemical kinetics.

User 002

My favorite function is 1/\cos(x). Here's the graph:

User 022

My favorite function is f(x) = \cos 081020x + 5\sin x. Here’s the graph.

User 004

My favorite function is f(x) = \ln(x).
Here is what the graph of the function looks like:

User 008

Mine is f(x) = 0

User 023

My favorite function is

f(x)=x^{\sin x}.

Here's a picture:

User 020
f(x) = \sin x
User 009

I'll be going with f(y) = 0

User 010

r = \theta

User 007

My favorite function is

y=y\cos x\ +\ y\sin x

Because I it make me feel that I broke it an d it made me laugh

User 013

My favorite function is the function we first learned:

y = x.
User 015

My favorite function is f(x)=x

@User 025 Do you think you could edit your post and make sure that you're using the typesetting tools as described on this post, please? In your case, you've just got to delimit your input in dollar signs, like this$. For more involved inputs, it's still super simple to use the sparkly AI proof reader to ensure that your math is typeset correctly.

You can edit your post by clicking on the pencil icon in toolbar below your post.

@User 033 That looks great! There's just one small, subtle formatting issue. Mathematical functions (like the sine) are typically indicated with a \. So the correct format for you function would be

$$
f(x) = \sin x
$$

rather than just

$$
f(x) = sin x
$$

That sort of thing should usually be caught with the proofreader you can find under sparkly AI menu.

Could you edit your post to make that change, please? You can edit your post by clicking on the pencil icon under your post.

User 020

Done. Thanks I didn't know about the AI proof reader, it did try and change some of the embedded graph text but I just ignored it's edits for that.

Yes - I’ve prompted the proofreader to focus on typesetting mathematics correctly. It’ll correct spelling, too, but I’ve instructed it to focus only on those things. It shouldn’t check mathematical correctness or anything else.

User 012

f(x) = (1 - \cos^{2}x) + (1 - \sin^{2}x)

User 014

My favorite function: f(x) = \tan(x)

User 017

My favorite function is

f(x) = e^{x}

User 018

My favorite function is 6 = x^{2} + y^{2}.

mark

@User 034 I’m not convinced that x^2+y^2=6 defines a function but I like it anyway.

User 005

My favorite function is f(x) = x.

mark

@User 035 I think someone took your example already! Also, would love to see a graph.

User 024

My favorite function is \sec(x). It looks like this:

mark

@User 036 Good enough for a :heart:! I hope you don't mind if I edited the plot range a bit to make it look a bit more familiar. Also, if you use the AI proofreader, I think you'll get

  • \sec(x), rather than
  • sec(x)
User 016

My favorite function is

F(x)=x^x

it looks like this

User 031

My Favorite function is Ax^2
