Exploring categorical CDC data

mark

(10 pts)

In this problem, you’re (again) going to download and explore your own sample of data from the CDC - but this time with a focus on contingency tables and mosaic plots. To get started, choose your name from the following list to download your sample:

Once you get your sample, upload it to our data explorer. Then, perform some analysis to do the following:

  1. Generate a contingency table to explore the relationship between general health and exercise.
  2. Use your contingency table to find the proportion of folks in excellent health who don’t exercise.
  3. Produce a mosaic plot to illustrate the relationship between general health and exercise.

2. the proportion of people in excellent health who do not exercise: 0.0351
Of the 459 people in excellent health in this sample, it seems that 387 perform some type of exercise and 72 do not exercise. In looking at the proportion of people in excellent health who do not exercise in comparison to the entire sample (n=2049) we find that to be: 0.0351
The proportion of people who do not exercise compared only to the number of people in excellent health (n=459) is: 0.1568
It seems that about 3.5% of the survey population that is in excellent health does not exercise.
Furthermore, about 15.7% of the people who exercise are in excellent heath.

3. Dr. McClure, I can see the Mosaic but can’t download, copy, or anything else with it. Not sure what I did. It just appeared on the right when I did it in class…
