Your favorite function

(5 pts)

As students in a 200 level math class, I assume that you all have a favorite function. Your first assignment is to tell us about it. Specifically,

  • Type out your favorite function using LaTeX syntax and
  • Include a graph of your favorite function.

Check out this post on formatting in the forum to see how to input stuff nicely into the forum.

My favorite function is f(x) = e^{-x^2}. Its graph looks like this:

I created that graph using GeoGebra.

My favorite function is f(x)=(1-x^n)^{\frac{1}{n}}\ . It’s the function for a superellipse’s top half or top right corner. When n is set to 2, it’s just the function of the top half of a circle. Some values of n end up as imaginary, while negative values create asymptotes. This one is when n =-3.

Here’s the link to desmos with a slider for n: Superellipse Segment

My favorite function is:

f(x) = \frac{1}{\ln(x^2)}

Here is the graph from desmos:

My favorite function is f(x)=e^x it has changed since I last had one of your classes because e^x makes integrals easier

bshambli

My favorite function is \sin(x). I know it’s overplayed, but seeing how it ties in to 3 dimensions in Calculus 3 really got me hooked.

One of my favorite functions is y=1/sin(x)
I like to take the reciprocal of different functions to see how it will affect the result.

Eli

My favorite function is f(x)= 1/(\sin(x))

athach

My favorite function is f(x) = cos(x).

Jared

My favorite function is:

f(x) = x^2

It’s graph is:

My favorite function is f(x) = lnx^2 .

csluder2

My favorite function is f(x) =x^3
